Vancouver Island Rail Getaways
VIA RAIL: THE MALAHAT
On the Malahat you'll discover some of the most beautiful countryside on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Running between Victoria, at the southern tip of the island, and Courtenay, at the northern end, the Malahat is a very pleasant way to discover the Pacific coast!
The Malahat offers one departure each day, in each direction. The journey time from Victoria to Courtenay is approximately 4½ hours. Victoria is easily accessible by car ferries from Vancouver, passenger ferries from Seattle, and float planes from several areas of the South Western Coast. Courtenay can be connected by motorcoach to Port Hardy on the northern tip of the island where travelers can then take the Inside Passage ferry to Prince Rupert, which connects with VIA Rail's Skeena train.
