Late fall is the best time to see these beautiful creatures and special vehicles take visitors out on the tundra to see the bears hunting before the onset of winter. In the summer months, thousands of friendly beluga whales arrive to mate and calve in the Hudson Bay. Avid birdwatchers can spot over 200 species of birds. Keep your eyes peeled and you're bound to spot harbour seals and caribou along the coast. Out on the arid tundra that surrounds the city, you'll find a surprising abundance of flora, including nine species of cold-tolerant orchids. You will also be able to witness the brilliance of the Aurora Borealis (northern lights). There is no highway to Churchill, so visitors must arrive via train or plane available from Winnipeg.
